Your Lasik treatment
We recommend a stay of at least four days in Istanbul or Izmir. 1st day – Arrival in Istanbul If you arrive no later than 3.00 pm the preliminary examination can be performed the same day. 2nd day – Preliminary examination in the morning Surgery in the evening. (Even if the preliminary examination was completed the previous day, we recommend that surgery be performed in the evening, to enable you to retire to the hotel afterwards and enjoy a night's rest.) 3rd day – Follow-up examination and free time 4th day – Free time and return flight The procedure in detail: 1st day – Arrival in Istanbul or Izmir If you have booked a package deal, you will first of all be brought to your hotel, where you will have plenty of time to check in. Before leaving home you will have received a treatment plan from us. It will state the time you will be picked up from your hotel by a clinic driver for the preliminary examination – either the same day or next morning – and returned afterwards. If you have booked our COMFORT package there will be no back and forth, as you will be accommodated in the hotel directly adjacent to the clinic. In addition you will receive our information folder with plenty of valuable tips for your stay in Istanbul and your treatment. If you have booked the flight only and we have reserved a room in the adjacent 4-star hotel, you will be picked up at the airport by a clinic driver. In the clinic you will be looked after by an English-speaking member of staff. If you arrive before 3.00 pm the preliminary examination will normally take place the same day. 2nd day – Preliminary examination and your Lasik surgery If you have booked a package deal, a driver will pick you up at the hotel and bring you back after the preliminary examination. In the event that you have reserved a room in the neighbouring hotel as part of our COMFORT package, you can simply walk over to the clinic. Preliminary examination:
Upon completion of all tests, the results will be discussed with the attendant senior physician. Provided no contraindications arise from the preliminary examination, an appointment for surgery will be made. Please note: You should discontinue wearing hard contact lenses three weeks prior to the preliminary examination and surgery. Soft contact lenses should not be worn within two weeks of the examination and surgery. No make-up or perfume should be worn for either the preliminary examination or surgery. You may use the time between the preliminary examination and surgery as you wish. (Advice: Wear sunglasses, as your eyes will be light sensitive due to the widening of the pupils). In our information folder (provided with the COMFORT package) you will find tips for spending your free time (e.g. recommendations for restaurants and shops close to the clinic). Surgery The Lasik surgery will be performed on an outpatient basis. First of all you will be given anaesthetising eyedrops. Then the operation can begin. It will take only a few minutes for each eye. After treatment you will receive a special kind of glasses. They protect your eyes and can be worn during the night. This will be followed by a check-up. You can either walk back to the adjacent hotel or you will be brought to your hotel by the driver. An English-speaking member of staff will be available to answer any questions you may have during the entire course of treatment, including the preliminary and follow-up examinations. 3rd day – Follow-up examination and free time The follow-up examination will again take place at the hospital. Here again, you will be picked up by a driver from your hotel at the given time (usually early morning) and returned after the procedure. To avoid inflammation you will be advised to take the prescribed eyedrops regularly. This concludes the course of treatment (usually around noon). If you wish, the driver will bring you back to your hotel. The remaining time until your return flight is available for you to do as you please. 4th day – Free time and return flight In the info folder included with the COMFORT package you will find a wealth of suggestions on what to see in Istanbul or Izmer until your departure. If you have booked a package holiday, a bus will pick you up from the hotel and bring you to the airport. The bus times will be posted on the hotel notice board. If you have booked our COMFORT package and a room in the adjacent hotel you will be brought to the airport at the given time.
